CFA's Distinguished Merit Award

The Distinguished Merit (or DM) award has been in existence in CFA since the 1981-82 show season.

The original criteria to earn this award was for a female to produce 5 Grand Champion or Grand Premier offspring, and a male to produce 15 Grand Champion or Grand Premier offspring - with offspring only being counted once in the total, regardless of how many titles they might win.

Later, in 1999, the criteria was revised to include offspring who were DMs themselves, which is the current criteria. A female must produce 5 Grand Champion, Grand Premier, or Distinguished Merit offspring, and a male must produce 15 Grand Champion, Grand Premier, or Distinguished Merit offspring - again, with offspring only being counted once, no matter how many titles they may earn.

The first Himalayan to earn the title was CH Westpoint Brigadier of Theasaurus, DM, a blue point male, who qualified on February 25, 1989.

The first CPC to earn the title was Teacherspets Skipper of Sulltans, DM, a blue-cream female, who qualified on March 24, 1990.
